In my suitcase

I've decided to create a weekly "in my suitcase" post because a) it's so fun to fake-plan a vacation in your head, and b) it's a fantastic waste of time. This week's destination: Savannah, Georgia. Okay, I have to admit that this isn't actually a fake vacation this time- my parents and I recently decided to swing by Savannah while we spend the Christmas season in Florida. I have heard such wonderful things about this quaint city but haven't ever been, so I am much looking forward to the Squares of Savannah, stopping in the Savannah College of Art and Design, and eating at Paula Dean's restaurant, The Lady and Sons!

Without further ado, this is my vintage hat box suitcase:

Bring on the red cups [holiday season]

The red cups are back! And, sadly enough, the commercial entity that is Starbucks just ushered me into the holiday season. I have been shaking my head at the Christmas decoration merchandise that popped up the day after Halloween, turning a deaf ear to Christmas music in stores, and begging my early-decorator grandma not to put her lawn reindeer out until at least Thanksgiving. But there was something different tonight- maybe that all the storefronts on Michigan Avenue are putting up Christmas displays, that the side streets already have their tree lights up and bright, that the Magnificent Mile Festival of Lights is on Saturday, and that I received the most precious holiday email from Kate Spade this afternoon. I got that tingling feeling of excitement in my stomach though. I officially cannot wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So on the festive note, I began my Christmas list!

1. An eternity scarf. Typical me, can't decide on a color.

2. Tory Burch Reva flat. It's about time- anyone care to choose a color for me? I'm thinking black and gold, but the green or orange is so pretty and deliciously impractical.

3. Lululemon yoga pants, since I'm now a gym class whore with a 7-month pregnant instructor who kicks my butt.

New York state of mind

How adorable is this suitcase? I feel like I wouldn't mind waiting for my luggage so much if I was waiting for this.

My best friend spent the weekend in New York City, and after sadly having to decline her last-minute invitation to go with, I spent the weekend kitten-sitting for her and wishing I was in NYC. This is what I would fill the suitcase with...

Wrap up

I just can't get the sequin Juicy Couture necklace out of my mind, so I have been searching for a more affordable version this evening. To my dismay, nothing matches Juicy. However, I did find some fabulous baubles from Newport News. I have never actually ordered anything from them before, but they are so J.Crew right now that I might have to give it a try.

On another note, Anthropologie almost does Juicy.

I'm no fool

Reminds me of Fool's Gold that I used to carry around with me when I was little.

Shoe-in

After enduring a very football-filled-sore-throat-from-yelling weekend, I decided to treat myself with some shoe shopping this afternoon. My secret go-to for shoes is DSW, especially downtown Chicago because it is just filled to the brim with pretty little things for really great prices.

Gray leather? Wooden heels? Ruffles? Perfect? Check, check, check. Check.

Girly black booties with an edge.

Peep-toe boots or heels? Both please.

Nailing down a fall color

My nails have been naked for officially 8 days. This is a big deal for me. Usually I fall in love with a nail polish and my nails are that color for a solid three months before the season changes and along with it, inevitably, my nails. I have no remorse for the colors left behind; they have served me well. Old favorites include Lincoln Park After Dark, You Don't Know Jacques, Juicy Tomato, Moon Over Mumbai, We'll Always Have Paris, and Rainy Day Red. I'm in turmoil about this season's colors right now though, and thus, naked nails. I would love to slip into the blues and greens of this season, but, unfortunately, women lawyers do not have green nails and I'm really trying my best to be one of those right now. This is what my night of research has turned up, however.

Feeling Urban

I have a serious love/hate relationship with Urban Outfitters. I go to the store and love the clothes and their hip, slightly bohemian look. They draw me in, promising, look how cute you could be, you would look so cool and casual without even trying. I cave, and buy, and when I get home I can just hear my closet saying, really, again? That does not match us. And then I hate. But since the store is having its fabulous September sale right now and I haven't been there in months, I made a little visit today and feel pretty pleased with my few, incredibly cheap purchases.

I have been in desperate need of an off-white cardigan. This Coincidence and Chance sweater in crystal gray, with pockets nonetheless, was under $20.

I'm a pretty simple girl, and I'd rather accessorize to dress up an outfit. This Silence and Noise tunic with a slight dolman sleeve was, gasp, less than $10.

I am incredibly anti-fake designer bag, so I'm hoping that this quilted chain tote has enough of an edge not to look like it's trying to be a Chanel. It is the perfect size for my laptop and just a couple little things so that I can stop lugging around my huge faux-crocodile bag that throws out my back and requires daily shoulder massages. I'll hang on to the massages I guess.
